PLUS Q & A (LIVE AND ONLINE)
One Piece is the biggest selling manga - and most popular anime - in the world. There has never been a successful live action adaptation of a manga, or anime, despite many attempts. Netflix chose to try one more time, and with a property everyone thought was impossible to adapt, One Piece.
The stakes were high. Not only would it be hugely expensive, but it also had a fanatical following, fiercely loyal to its optimistic lead characters, its wildly imaginative storylines, and its message to follow your dreams. When the series screened in 2023, it broke all records, becoming the number one global hit across 84 territories, beating Netflix blockbusters Stranger Things and Wednesday.
Marc Jobst, based in Stroud, was asked to be the pilot director and establish the look and tone of the show (having previously directed Marvel Studio’s Daredevil, The Punisher and Luke Cage, as well as The Witcher and Hannibal).
At this event Marc explains his approach to finding the look, to shooting the action scenes, to production design, lens choice, rehearsal, and the key task of finding a global cast, during a pandemic, to deliver a show that succeeded against the odds.
As well as being part of the audience in Lansdown Hall, it’s also possible to join Marc online for the event.
Joining the ONLINE IS FREE but it is essential to register. On 10th Feb you will receive an email with a link to join the event
