LANSDOWN HALL, LANSDOWN, GL5 1BB
Extraordinary film footage of Aretha Franklyn recording the most successful gospel album of all time, Amazing Grace, at the New Temple, Missionary Baptist Church in Watts, Los Angeles in 1972. Accompanied by the Southern Californian Community Choir. (plus Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts in the audience). The recording languished for almost 40 years until new digital technology could be used to match the sound to picture and make a film out of the previously un-synched raw footage. This film is a testimony to the greatness of Aretha Franklin and a time-machine window into a moment in American musical and social history.
